1. Live, learn and earn at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Atlantic City this summer
It may be winter now, but it’s not too early to start thinking about spending your summer at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Atlantic City. Register online to take a summer class or two at our newest campus and live in our new ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Atlantic City beachfront housing. Registration opens Jan. 17.
2. Join the 16th Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service
Join us Jan. 20 for the 16th M.L.K. Day of Service, the largest such event in South Jersey. This campus-wide community service project, coordinated by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½â€™s Office of Service Learning, brings hundreds of students and community members together to make a difference on campus and in the community. 3. Relax in the new, larger veterans office and lounge
The newly expanded Office of Military and Veterans Services includes a new, expanded lounge to serve the more than 400 student veterans and active service memers attending ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½. Stop by F105 to learn more about services and meet members of the Student Veteran Organization.
4. Shoot for the stars in the refurbished observatory
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½â€™s Harold E. Taylor Observatory on Pomona Road has recently been refurbished and reopened to the public. Associate Professor Joseph Trout and student physics students host occasional public viewings, where they guide visitors through a tour of the night sky with the Meade LX-200 computer-controlled telescope. 5. Choose test-optional admissions or Transfer Pathways
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is standardized test optional for general freshman admission because we recognize test scores are not always the best predictor of college ability. Students planning to transfer from participating community colleges can also receive dual admission to ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and extra support through the Transfer Pathways program.
6. Learn something new at camp
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ offers educational and fun summer camps for pre-college students. Learn how to solve a murder at CSI camp, explore the Pinelands at the Science Enrichment Academy at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ SEAS camp or get hands-on learning about running a business at our new Summer Entrepreneurship and Business Academy (SEBA). 7. Help build ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½â€™s Foundation
From our second event on Feb. 28 honoring Bob and Judy Garbutt, to the Scholarship Gala on May 9, the annual golf tournament and Ospreys Give in October, there are many opportunities to make an impact on our campus community. 8. Hang out in the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Center
The Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Center (WGSC), now located in F-103, welcomes women, all genders who identify as LGBTQIA+, and the men who support them. Relax in the colorful lounge, attend a group discussion or just read a book in one of the new bean bag chairs. The center has a lactation room and a private interview room for victims of sexual violence.
9. Take the next step with one of our new graduate programs
Thinking about a graduate degree? Consider one of ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½â€™s 15 master's degrees and three doctoral degree programs. New this year are the M.S./P.S.M. in Coastal Zone Management and a dual B.A. to M.A. in Literature/American Studies. The MBA in Healthcare Administration and Leadership is now offered exclusively at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Atlantic City campus.
10. Come on back – to alumni events for everyone
Join fellow Ospreys at a year’s worth of alumni events, including the family-friendly Second Saturday programs at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Atlantic City (starting with Board Game Bonanza on Jan. 11) and ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Day at Morey's Piers. Share your experiences by joining the "When I Was in Your Seat" program for incoming freshmen, or attend Reunion Weekend May 29-31. 11. A new learning experience at the Holocaust Resource Center
A new program at the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center will give area middle and high school students the opportunity to learn from a Holocaust survivor through interacting with an interactive survivor biography. The pilot program, a partnership with the Shoah Foundation of the University of Southern California’s Dimensions In Testimony, will launch in early 2020.
12. Get moving … or watch the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Athletics DocuSeries
From to , and from intramural and club sports to Division III competitions, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Athletics has a sport for everyone. Get out and play, or sit back and watch the new sports .
13. Learn about a Congressional legacy
Explore the life of retired U.S. Representative Frank LoBiondo with a student-curated exhibit located in the lower level of The exhibit features 10 themes from LoBiondo’s career, and includes his desk and a flag that flew over the Capitol building in Washington. Materials from the larger collection of papers and materials housed at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ are also available for research.
14. You don’t have to be a student to learn something new
From photography to mindfulness and retirement planning, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½â€™s Continuing Studies department believes in educating people for life. You can earn an online certificate in Cannabis Studies, or attend the African American Cultural Heritage Short Course on April 17-18.
15. See the world with ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½
Want to see the world (or at least a piece of it) while you pursue your degree? ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½â€™s Study Abroad programs and the Washington Internship program offer many opportunities. The Office of Global Engagement can help you find your next educational adventure.
16. Civility in government? Join the discussion
The William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has partnered with the National Institute for Civil Discourse’s Initiative to Revive Civility and will host public dialogues about civility in political conversations during the 2020 election year.
17. Get involved on campus
Looking for a place to make new friends or learn something new? Whether you're into rock music, rock climbing, or just plain rocks, you can find others with the same interest at one (or two, or three) of the more than 150 clubs at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½. Not sure what club is right for you? Check out the Spring 2020 Get Involved Fair on Jan. 28 and 29, where clubs, intramural sports and Greek life organizations will welcome new members.
18. Hear a distinctive voice
The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Women’s Leadership Council seeks to promote networking among women and the community through workshops and speakers. The council will welcome comedian and actress Nancy Giles at the “Distinguished Women. Distinctive Voices†Speaker Series at 6 p.m. March 23 in the Campus Center Event Room.
19. Celebrate your accomplishments
You made it and it’s time to celebrate! The doctoral and master’s Commencement ceremony will be held May 12 on ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½'s Galloway campus, and the undergraduate Commencement will be May 15 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The Commencement page has more information.
20. It’s our anniversary!
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has come a long way since fall 1971, when the first cohort of students attended classes at the old Mayflower Hotel in Atlantic City for a semester while the Galloway campus was completed. ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ will celebrate its 50th year of teaching with a year-plus celebration that will begin in fall 2020. We’ve already begun sharing ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Stories online. Alumni can share their ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ stories and photos there as well.
